Looking for signs of impending cuts

I've been with Citi for a few years now, and while there hasn't been any official announcement, I'm getting a weird vibe. My department has seen a few key people leave voluntarily over the past couple of months, and they haven't been replaced. Hiring freeze seems to be in effect for non-critical roles. There's also a lot of talk about 'strategic realignment' and 'optimizing our footprint,' which sounds like corporate speak for layoffs to me. Is anyone else picking up on these kinds of subtle signals? Trying to gauge the overall sentiment and prepare myself, just in case.

I'm not in your department, but I've definitely heard similar murmurs across the company. 'Strategic realignment' is a classic signal that something's coming down the pipeline. It's always a stressful time when these things are in the air, and it's understandable to be looking for concrete signs. The voluntary departures not being backfilled is a pretty common precursor, unfortunately. Hoping for the best, but keeping an eye out myself.
