Quiet period? The silence from leadership is deafening

Is anyone else getting a weird vibe lately? Usually, by this point in the quarter, we have some indication of where we stand regarding budgets and headcount. My manager keeps dodging questions about performance review cycles and Q4 resource planning. Every time I bring up project staffing for the end of the year, the conversation gets shut down immediately. It feels like they are waiting for some corporate mandate from high above before they can tell us anything. I’m not saying there’s an immediate RIF, but the lack of transparency is starting to make everyone jumpy. We’re all just sitting here doing the work while staring at our calendars, wondering if an calendar invite for a 'quick sync' with HR is lurking in our future. Has anyone heard anything from the VP level? Or is it just business as usual in other divisions?

Same thing over in my division. It’s definitely a weird atmosphere right now. When management starts being this vague, it usually means there is a big restructuring or a headcount reduction being finalized in the background. My team has been told to just keep our heads down and stop asking about next year’s budget until further notice. Whatever the plan is, the lack of transparency is starting to kill morale. Don't be surprised if the news drops right before the holidays to minimize the reaction.
