Seeing a lot more 'efficiency' discussions lately

Lately, the buzzwords around the office have shifted. It's not just about hitting targets anymore, but a heavy emphasis on 'driving efficiencies' and 'streamlining processes.' Every meeting seems to have at least one agenda item dedicated to cost optimization or how we can 'do more with less.' Performance metrics are also being scrutinized more intensely, with a focus on productivity that feels a bit... aggressive. While I understand the need to be competitive and manage costs, the frequency and intensity of these discussions are starting to make me uneasy. It feels like a prelude to something, and I can't shake the feeling that 'efficiency' is just corporate speak for headcount reduction. Is this just the usual financial sector churn, or is anyone else picking up on a more pointed drive towards cutting expenses?
