Workload surge, hiring freeze - what gives?

Hey everyone, Been feeling a major disconnect lately. My team's been absolutely swamped for the past couple of quarters. Projects are piling up, deadlines are getting tighter, and we're constantly being asked to go above and beyond. It's getting to the point where burnout is a real concern for a lot of us. But here's the kicker: no one is being hired. We've had open requisitions for months that just seem to be going nowhere. It feels like there's a complete hiring freeze, or at least a severe slowdown, across the board. It's really starting to gnaw at me. Are we expected to just keep absorbing more and more work indefinitely? Is this some kind of subtle way to trim headcount without announcing layoffs? I'm trying not to jump to conclusions, but the combination of extreme workload and zero new blood is making me seriously uneasy. Anyone else in a similar boat or have any insights into what's going on behind the scenes?
