1100 gone, but engineering allegedly grew? What's the company spinning?

Alright, so the official line is that these 1100 layoffs were all about 'efficiency' and some sort of tech advancement making roles redundant. I get that companies evolve, but then I see reports, like on Hacker News, saying the engineering team actually *grew* by 45%? How does that even compute? Are they trying to tell us they fired 1100 people and then hired even *more* engineers? It feels like a massive disconnect, and frankly, insulting to everyone who lost their jobs. It makes the whole 'efficiency' story sound like a thinly veiled excuse. What's the real game plan here? Are they consolidating teams, offshoring, or just clearing house to make room for a specific new initiative? I'm really struggling to reconcile the numbers and the narrative. Anyone else feel like they're being fed a load of corporate jargon that doesn't hold up to basic scrutiny? It's making it hard to trust leadership's messaging.
