The 'efficiency' narrative feels so hollow

I'm still processing the news about the 1100 layoffs. Hearing the company frame it as 'efficiency gains' or 'streamlining' just feels like a slap in the face, honestly. We all know layoffs aren't about making things *more* efficient in the short term, they're about cutting costs, plain and simple. And the timing, right after some financial news... it makes the 'efficiency' story sound like a convenient excuse. Did anyone actually feel like their role was redundant or that the company was bloated? Because from my perspective, we were all heads-down working. It makes you wonder what the real metrics are that they're looking at, and if those metrics are truly reflective of the work people were doing. Feeling pretty cynical about this whole 'optimization' talk.

It's tough to hear about such a significant number of people losing their jobs, especially when the reasoning feels so detached from the human impact. 'Efficiency' is a business term, and while I understand companies need to adapt, framing layoffs this way can really erode trust among the remaining employees. It's hard not to feel a sense of unease when the rhetoric doesn't seem to match the reality of widespread job losses.

Yeah, 'efficiency' as the catch-all for layoffs always feels a bit off. It's corporate speak for restructuring or cost-cutting, and pretending it's some sort of operational improvement that benefits everyone seems disingenuous. It's understandable why people would feel dismissed when their roles are eliminated under such a banner. The timing certainly doesn't help make the explanation any more palatable.
