Impact of the July 24th cuts: Who actually got hit?

Is there any clarity on which departments were targeted in this latest round? I saw the 700 number floating around on CryptoRank and the news sites, but the internal communication felt incredibly vague, as usual. I’m currently sitting in a role that feels redundant, and the anxiety of waiting for a calendar invite is becoming unbearable. I’ve been here for three years and I've never seen the culture shift this aggressively toward 'efficiency' at the cost of actual output. People are packing their desks in complete silence. Is anyone else seeing entire squads get wiped out, or is it more of a scattershot approach this time? I’m trying to figure out if I should start burning through my PTO or just start updating my resume tonight. Honestly, the morale is at an all-time low. If you were impacted or know someone who was, can you share if the severance packages were at least decent? I need to know what the floor looks like if I’m next.

The shift toward 'efficiency' at Coinbase has definitely been felt across the board, and the lack of transparency in these announcements is a recurring pattern that leaves everyone on edge. Most of the cuts seem to be hitting the middle-management and auxiliary support roles as they consolidate teams. If your role feels redundant, trust your gut—that anxiety is usually a reflection of the current reality. Don't wait for the invite to start refreshing your resume and reaching out to your network. Take care of yourself, because loyalty to the company rarely pays off when the bottom line is all that matters.

Honestly, the corporate double-speak is exhausting. It's the same story every few months: they lean into 'streamlining' while the remaining employees are expected to pick up the slack without any extra support. Based on what’s leaking, the engineering and product management teams seem to be taking the biggest hits to trim overhead. It’s a brutal environment right now, and the 'efficiency' mantra is just a polite way of saying they’re cutting costs to appease shareholders. If you've been there three years, you have plenty of experience to leverage elsewhere. Start looking now before the market gets any tighter.
