Just survived the layoffs. Feeling...weird?

Okay, so my team made it through the latest round of layoffs. I'm still employed, which I should be grateful for, right? But honestly, I feel terrible. Seeing so many talented colleagues, some of whom I've worked with for years, get let go is awful. The atmosphere is so tense now, everyone's walking on eggshells, wondering if they're next. I keep thinking, why them and not me? Was it just luck? My manager keeps telling us to focus on 'the future' but it's hard when the present feels so unstable and the past is full of laid-off friends. Anyone else experiencing major survivor guilt? How are you coping?

I totally get that survivor's guilt. It's a real thing. A similar thing happened at my last job. The best thing I did was reach out to some of those who were laid off. Offer to write a LinkedIn recommendation or just be a sounding board. It won't fix everything, but it might help you feel like you're doing something positive, and it really can help them.

Honestly, 'focus on the future' is corporate-speak for 'shut up and be grateful you still have a job.' Look out for yourself. Start updating your resume and networking. It doesn't mean you aren't grateful, but it's smart to be prepared. This might be a good time to quietly assess if this is where you want to be long-term, even if things stabilize.
