Laid off after 5 years - feeling numb, what's next?

Well, it finally happened. Got the call this morning. Five years at Coinbase, working as a senior data analyst in the marketing team, and now I'm out. I honestly thought I was safe. My performance reviews have always been good, and I was even working on a pretty high-profile project. I guess it doesn't matter anymore. The severance package is decent, a few months' pay and benefits. HR said they'd help with job placement, but I'm not holding my breath. Honestly, I'm just feeling...numb. I don't even know where to start looking for a new job. Crypto is down, and everyone is tightening their belts. Any advice from others who've been through this? What resources did you find helpful? How long did it take you to find something new? I'm open to anything at this point.

Sorry to hear that. Been there. Big tech layoffs are brutal, and 'performance' rarely factors in as much as they claim. Take the severance, take a breath, and don't rush into anything. This happened to me a few years back, and I ended up freelancing for a bit before landing a much better role at a smaller company. Use the HR resources, but also lean on your network. You'll get through it.

Five years at Coinbase is solid experience. Numbness is normal, so allow yourself to feel it. But don't stay there too long. Dust off that resume, highlight the high-profile project, and start applying *everywhere*. LinkedIn is your friend. Network like crazy. The market's tough, but a senior data analyst with Coinbase on their CV? You'll land something. Don't undersell yourself and definitely negotiate your next salary. Good luck!
