Quiet hiring freezes in Tech/Ops?

Seems like CBA is doing that classic slow-motion squeeze. My team lost two people in the last quarter and instead of being allowed to open the reqs, leadership is telling us to 'absorb the workload' and prioritize. It’s the same old story—do more with less until the burnout sets in, then wait for the inevitable 'realignment' announcement. I’ve been looking at the internal portal and noticed a distinct lack of new postings compared to this time last year. Management keeps talking about AI integration and automation as the future, but we all know that’s just the polite way to suggest that current headcount might be redundant sooner rather than later. I’m not panicking yet, but I’ve definitely started reaching out to recruiters on LinkedIn just to see what the market looks like outside of the big four. If you're in the tech or operations side of the house, are you seeing your open roles get killed off too, or is it just my department getting hit by the austerity stick?

I’ve noticed the exact same thing in my department. It’s definitely a silent freeze disguised as 'strategic prioritization.' They aren’t replacing anyone who leaves, and the workload is becoming unsustainable. Everyone is just waiting for the next round of restructuring to see who gets chopped next. It feels like they’re trying to shrink the headcount by attrition before the end of the financial year. Good luck, it’s a tough environment right now.

That’s standard CBA playbook at this point. They love to squeeze the existing staff until morale hits rock bottom, all while pretending everything is business as usual. I’ve seen multiple roles vanish from the job boards without a word. If you’re feeling the pressure, start dusting off your resume now because the 'realignment' is almost certainly coming. Don't wait for them to decide your future for you; start looking at external options before the market gets even more saturated.
