The uncertainty here is honestly the worst part. Management loves using buzzwords like 'operational efficiency' while the people who have been here for years are left checking the bulletin boards for their own names. If they aren't planning to close the place entirely, they need to come out and say it instead of hiding behind vague corporate memos. Everyone I talk to in the plant is already polishing their resumes because we all know that once they start with these rounds of layoffs, they rarely stop until they hit their target numbers. It’s a miserable way to run a facility.
I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for an honest answer from leadership. They’ve been playing this 'streamlining' game for years, and it almost always ends in a full site transition or a total shutdown once the local tax breaks expire or the overhead costs don't align with their quarterly goals. Keep your head down and focus on getting your own exit plan in order because management clearly doesn't value retention. They look at us as line items on a spreadsheet, not people with mortgages and families. Expect more cuts before this is all said and done.
