COP - Performance Reviews & Uncertainty

Just finished my annual performance review at COP and the feedback was generally positive, but there was a lot of hedging around future headcount and project funding. My manager was pretty vague when I asked about long-term team stability. It feels like there's an unspoken anxiety in the air. We're a profitable company, and I know that, but the economic outlook for the energy sector is always a wild card. It’s making it hard to plan. I’m seeing more people polishing their resumes, just in case. Anyone else feel this disconnect between stated company performance and the undercurrent of uncertainty regarding job security? Is it just me, or is there a general feeling of 'wait and see' across the board?

Sounds like a familiar tune across the industry lately. Even with solid financials, the energy sector's volatility creates this constant undercurrent of uncertainty. It's tough to feel secure when the future feels so dependent on external market forces that are impossible to predict accurately. Hopefully, the company provides more clarity soon, but I understand the need to keep options open. Stay vigilant.
