Severance packages after the June 30th cuts

For those of you who were part of the 84 let go in the Atlanta office, have you had a chance to look over the separation agreements yet? I’m hearing mixed reports regarding the terms. Some are saying they were hit with non-disparagement clauses that feel pretty aggressive given the circumstances. I’m currently weighing my options and trying to figure out if it’s worth pushing back on the legal side or if I should just take the bridge and move on. The job market in this sector feels incredibly shaky right now, and I’m terrified that jumping into a new role immediately might just land me in another company with the same 'growth at all costs' mentality. If you’re willing to share, what are you seeing in your packets? Are they offering anything beyond the bare minimum for COBRA? Any advice on navigating this would be appreciated.

I'd definitely consult with an employment attorney before signing anything. CoStar is notorious for their aggressive legal posturing, and that non-disparagement clause is likely there for a reason. If you have any leverage, like documentation of unfair practices or specific promises made during your hiring, you might be able to negotiate a better severance or at least soften the restrictions. Don't let the pressure of the job market force you into a bad deal that limits your future options or silences your rights. It’s a tough spot to be in, but don't sign until you know exactly what you’re giving up.

Honestly, take the severance and run. The legal fees to fight a company like CoStar will eat up any extra money you might squeeze out of them, and the stress just isn't worth it. Most of those clauses are boilerplate and won't really impact your ability to get a new role unless you're planning on going scorched-earth on LinkedIn. The sector is cooling off, so prioritize your mental health and start networking immediately rather than wasting energy on a grudge. Keep your head down, get your paperwork sorted, and focus your energy on landing the next opportunity.
