Severance Package Q's if layoffs happen

Hypothetically speaking, if Costco were to do layoffs, what would the severance package likely look like? I'm in accounting, been here for 3 years, and trying to get my ducks in a row in case the rumors are true. Heard anything concrete about how many weeks per year of service? Are benefits extended? Anything else I should be considering/asking about if that day comes? HR is always so vague. Trying to get some real insight. I'd appreciate any insights based on past experiences or what you've heard.

I haven't heard anything specific about layoffs at Costco, but in general, severance packages often include a few weeks of pay per year of service. Three years might get you six to twelve weeks. Benefits continuation is another big one - see if they'll cover your health insurance for a few months. Negotiate for outplacement services too; they can help with resume writing and job search. Most importantly, DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. Keep copies of your performance reviews, any emails related to your role, and notes from conversations with management.

Honestly, I wouldn't put too much stock in rumors. Costco is usually pretty stable. Even during economic downturns, they tend to avoid mass layoffs. That being said, it's smart to be prepared. Review your employment agreement carefully. It might have details about termination clauses. Also, start networking internally and externally. It's always good to have options, just in case. Don't let the rumors paralyze you, just use it as motivation to update your resume and connect with people.
