Wondering about career progression post-COVID at Costco

Hi all, long-time Costco employee here. I've been at my current position for a while and was looking at potential upward mobility within the company. However, it feels like the paths that were clearer before COVID have become a bit muddied. I've seen fewer internal promotions advertised, and it seems like more senior roles are either staying stagnant or are being filled externally, which is a bit disheartening. Has anyone else experienced this or have insights into how career advancement looks now compared to a few years ago? Is there a focus on specific skills or certifications that might be more valued now? Just trying to get a sense of the landscape and if my expectations for growth are realistic.

I've definitely noticed a similar trend, though I'm in a different department. It does feel like things have slowed down a bit compared to pre-pandemic. My manager mentioned that some restructuring happened, which might be impacting how internal roles are being posted. I'm trying to focus on skills development and taking on extra projects to make myself a stronger candidate whenever something does open up. It's a bit of a waiting game, but I'm hoping things will pick up again soon.

That's a valid concern. I haven't seen as many senior roles opening up internally either, and it's made me rethink my own long-term plans. My supervisor suggested looking into cross-training opportunities in other departments. The idea is that if I can offer a broader skillset, it might make me a more attractive candidate for a wider range of positions, even if they aren't strictly 'promotions' in the traditional sense right away. It's a bit of a shift in perspective, but I'm exploring it.
