I’ve seen this script play out before at Cox. Whenever they start pulling job postings and citing 'internal restructuring,' it’s almost always a sign that corporate is preparing for a headcount reduction. If they aren't backfilling roles from months ago, they’ve already made the decision to save that budget rather than support the current teams. Start updating your resume now, because 'absorbing the workload' is just code for 'doing more with less' until they decide to hand out the pink slips. Protect yourself.
Honestly, I wouldn't panic just yet. Every company goes through these cycles where they pause hiring to reassess priorities or integrate new processes. Sometimes it’s just budget realignment for the new fiscal year rather than a precursor to layoffs. I’ve survived a few of these 'restructuring' phases at Cox, and most of the time, the roles eventually reappear once the dust settles. Keep your head down, do your job, and wait for the quarterly town hall before you start assuming the worst.
