Quiet period vs. actual trouble?

Is it just me, or has the communication from leadership turned into a total vacuum lately? I’ve been with Cox for a few years and usually, there’s at least some vague 'we’re all in this together' messaging coming down from the top during the mid-quarter lull. Right now, it’s just crickets. My manager was acting incredibly cagey during our 1:1 yesterday when I asked about the budget projections for next year. They kept pivoting to 'focusing on current deliverables' instead of giving a straight answer. It feels like the calm before a storm. I’m starting to tighten up my resume just in case, but I’m curious if anyone else is seeing the same wall of silence in their specific business units or if I’m just being paranoid because of the general market outlook.

When management starts pivoting to 'current deliverables' and refuses to discuss budgets, it’s usually the prelude to a reorg or deep cost-cutting measures. I’ve seen this exact pattern before at other large firms where leadership goes silent right before they drop the hammer. If your manager is being cagey, they likely know something is coming down the pipeline but aren't allowed to say it yet. Start polishing your resume now, because 'crickets' from the C-suite is never a good sign in this industry. Don't wait for the official email to start looking elsewhere.
