Feeling the freeze: Is CRH slowing down hiring or prepping?

Noticed that several open roles in my division were suddenly pulled from the job board this week without warning. Usually, when they go dark like that, it’s either a budget freeze or a sign that they are prepping to consolidate roles before the end of the year. I’ve reached out to a few folks in HR, but they are giving me the standard 'no comment' script which honestly makes me more anxious than a straight answer would. It feels like the company is battening down the hatches, but for what? I don't see any major market downturn that justifies a massive pivot, yet the silence is deafening. Has anyone heard if they are doing a soft freeze across the board or is this just isolated to the Americas segment? Don't want to get blindsided if a RIF is actually in the pipeline.

Same thing happened in my department last week. Two senior roles just vanished overnight without any internal update. It’s definitely unsettling when leadership goes radio silent, especially when you know the budget for those positions was already approved months ago. I’ve been through this cycle before at other firms, and it usually means they are trying to minimize headcount before the fiscal year-end reporting to make the balance sheet look leaner. Don't take it personally, but definitely keep your resume updated just in case.

Honestly, the 'no comment' from HR is the biggest red flag. If it were just a standard shift, they’d usually give some vague excuse about restructuring or changing priorities. The total silence suggests they’ve been told to keep a lid on it until the higher-ups finalize the consolidation plan. It’s stressful, but try not to spiral while you're still on the clock. Focus on your immediate tasks and stay professional, but start discreetly networking outside the company now, just to be safe.
