Feeling the pressure: VPs dodging questions about Q3 headcount

Is anyone else getting weird vibes during the all-hands lately? Every time someone asks about the long-term outlook or potential restructuring, the leadership team just deflects with some vague 'operational efficiency' buzzwords. I’ve been here three years, and the atmosphere feels exactly like it did right before the previous cuts. We’re being told we’re 'growing strategically' while backfills for key engineering roles are getting ghosted for months at a time. It’s hard to stay focused on shipping product when half the team is refreshing the WARN notices and looking for exit ramps. Does anyone know if there’s a secret internal tracker for headcount reduction, or are we all just flying blind until we get that inevitable calendar invite from HR? I’m starting to think my team is being set up for a consolidation play.

I’ve seen this script play out before. When they start using 'operational efficiency' as a blanket term for every question about the budget, it’s usually the harbinger of a bad earnings report. Trust your gut—if they’re ghosting backfills for critical roles, they’re almost certainly freezing headcount to fluff the margins for shareholders. It’s exhausting to keep grinding when the writing is clearly on the wall. Keep your resume updated and make sure you have your documentation ready, because middle management is clearly being told to keep everyone in the dark until the last possible second.

Honestly, the vibe at CrowdStrike has been off for months. They keep preaching about 'strategic growth' while the actual day-to-day engineering output is becoming a nightmare due to understaffing. It’s a classic case of leadership trying to keep the stock price propped up while burning out the people actually building the product. Don’t wait for them to give you a straight answer, because they never will. Start networking quietly and see what else is out there. No job is worth the constant anxiety of waiting for the next round of restructuring to drop.
