Middle management getting squeezed again

It’s becoming painfully obvious that the strategy is to flatten the hierarchy until there’s nothing left. I’ve been watching the leadership team prune middle management levels for months, and it’s creating this massive disconnect between the corporate office and the actual operations. You can’t just slash headcounts by the thousands and expect the remaining teams to pick up the slack without losing quality, yet here we are. The 'cost-cutting drive' is just a fancy way of saying we’re cannibalizing our own institutional knowledge to keep the quarterly numbers looking decent for the shareholders. Every time there's a rumor about a new round of cuts, morale drops another ten points. I’m tired of being told we’re a 'healthcare partner' when the focus is clearly just on the bottom line. I’m actively looking for an exit strategy now because waiting for the next round of cuts feels like a slow death. Anyone else feeling like the workload has become completely unsustainable since the last few waves?

It is the same old story at CVS. They talk about 'streamlining' and 'operational efficiency' while the people actually doing the work are drowning. When you strip out the middle management layer, you lose the people who translate strategy into reality. Now, nobody knows who is making decisions, and the front-line staff is left to deal with the fallout of disconnected directives from people who haven't stepped foot in a store or a pharmacy in years. It is unsustainable.

Honestly, I’ve been expecting this move for a while. The leadership team seems desperate to make the quarterly numbers look good at any cost, even if it means gutting the company’s internal structure. They think spreadsheets are the same thing as reality. By the time they realize that middle management was actually holding the place together, the talent drain will be permanent. It is frustrating to watch them burn through institutional knowledge just to satisfy short-term investors.
