Rumor mill: Q3 results and headcount reduction chatter

Seeing a lot of whispers on the internal channels about the upcoming Q3 earnings call. I know we’re all used to the cycles, but the mood feels heavier this time around. Management is playing it extremely coy, but the amount of 'cost-discipline' emails landing in my inbox has tripled since the start of the quarter. A few folks on my team mentioned that our travel budget was slashed to zero overnight, and we were told to put all 'non-essential' software spend on hold. That’s usually the precursor to a broader reduction in force. Has anyone heard any real scuttlebutt from the Olathe or Moline offices? I’m not looking for rumors, just trying to gauge if I should be polishing the resume this weekend. It’s impossible to get a straight answer out of anyone in leadership, and the lack of transparency is honestly more exhausting than the actual work at this point. If you know something, even anonymously, drop a hint—are we looking at a restructuring or are they just tightening the belt for a bad harvest season?

The mood in the office is definitely shifting. I’ve noticed the same pattern with the non-essential spending freezes, and it’s hard not to feel like the other shoe is about to drop. It’s frustrating because we’re all putting in the work, but these quiet freezes and the lack of transparency from leadership make it impossible to plan for the future. Honestly, expecting the worst is the only way to stay ahead of the game right now.

I wouldn't overthink the chatter just yet. Every time a quarterly earnings call approaches, the internal forums light up with the same panic about headcount and travel budgets. Deere has been through these cyclical adjustments a dozen times before, and while it feels heavy, it's often just standard operating procedure to tighten the belt before the numbers are finalized. Keep your head down, focus on your metrics, and wait for the official word rather than feeding into the stress.
