I’m seeing the same thing in the data center operations group. It’s definitely not just your region. Leadership is staying silent, but the silence speaks volumes. My manager stopped giving me updates on the open position on our team weeks ago, and now we’re just expected to absorb the extra workload indefinitely. It feels like they are testing to see how much we can handle before we break. If this is a soft freeze, they should at least be honest about it instead of leaving us to drown in tickets.
Honestly, this is standard procedure before a larger restructuring announcement. I’ve been through this cycle at other companies, and the pattern is always the same: first, the backfills go on hold, then the 'efficiency initiatives' start, and finally, the layoffs follow. Management never confirms a hiring freeze until it's already been in effect for a month. Start updating your resume now and keep your head down. It’s better to be prepared for the worst while hoping that things somehow normalize by next quarter.
