Discover layoffs? Saw something about Cap One?

Hey everyone, just saw a headline on HN mentioning Capital One laying off people at Discover HQ. Obviously, Cap One acquired Discover, so I'm wondering if this is a sign of things to come for us? It's not an official announcement from Discover itself, but it's definitely making me nervous. Anyone else see this or have any insights? Trying not to panic, but it's hard not to connect the dots. Wondering if anyone's heard any internal whispers or seen any unusual activity that might point to something similar happening here soon. Seems like the financial services sector is shaky right now.

It's completely understandable why a headline like that would cause concern, especially with the Cap One acquisition still fresh. It's always a bit unsettling when there are whispers of layoffs, even if they're coming from a source outside of Discover itself. Hopefully, it's just a standard part of the integration process and not a sign of widespread cuts. Keep an eye out for official communications, and try to focus on your work in the meantime. Easier said than done, I know.

Yeah, I saw that too and it definitely sent a ripple of anxiety through the team. It's a tricky situation because the acquisition is so new, and it's hard to know what the new management's strategy will be regarding staffing. While external reports can be alarming, it's best to wait for direct communication from Discover/Capital One before jumping to conclusions. Sometimes these things are related to specific departments or roles being consolidated. Stay calm and hope for the best.
