The silence from leadership is getting louder

Is anyone else feeling the anxiety creeping in? Every time I walk past a conference room or see someone from HR walking around with a folder, my heart rate spikes. We keep seeing these articles about Capital One’s acquisition integration and 'synergies'—which we all know is just corporate speak for gutting the staff. Leadership hasn't said a word about long-term job security, just vague platitudes about 'seamless transitions' during the merger town halls. I’ve been here for five years and I’ve never seen the office this quiet. People are literally just sitting at their desks staring at their monitors, not even pretending to work, just waiting for the email or the calendar invite. If the axe is coming, I wish they’d just rip the band-aid off so we can move on with our lives instead of living in this limbo.

I’m right there with you. The 'synergy' talk is just a polished way of saying layoffs. Every time there’s a town hall, they dodge the real questions about our roles. I stopped trusting the corporate line weeks ago when I started seeing the same patterns that happened at my previous firm during an acquisition. It’s impossible to stay focused when you’re constantly wondering if your access is going to be cut off by the end of the week. Honestly, update your resume now and start networking—it’s better to have a plan in place than to be caught off guard when the folder-carrying folks finally make their way to your department.

It is honestly exhausting. I’ve been trying to tune out the rumors, but the total radio silence from leadership is deafening. They expect us to keep hitting our KPIs while our heads are on the chopping block. It feels like they are just waiting for the regulatory hurdles to clear before they start showing us the door. I’ve reached out to a few recruiters just to see what else is out there because waiting for 'clarity' from upper management is a losing game. Take care of yourself first, because this company definitely isn't prioritizing our stability right now.
