Store manager workload is becoming unsustainable

I’m at my breaking point. They keep adding more tasks, more compliance checklists, and more 'regional deep dives' while cutting our payroll hours to the bone. How are we expected to run a store, handle inventory, and manage the constant corporate audits with half the team we had last year? It feels like they are squeezing us to see exactly how much we can take before we quit, or maybe they’re just trying to drive down headcount through attrition so they don't have to pay severance. I walked into the back room yesterday and just stared at the wall for ten minutes. The pressure from the district manager is relentless, yet they keep talking about 'growth' and 'new store concepts.' It feels like a massive disconnect between the corporate ivory tower and the reality on the floor. I’m tired of doing the work of three people for the same paycheck. If they’re planning a layoff, honestly, just rip the band-aid off so some of us can finally start applying elsewhere without the constant, draining anxiety.

I feel your pain. It’s the classic corporate playbook: keep stacking responsibilities while slashing labor budgets, then act surprised when the store turns into a disaster zone. The reality is that they don’t care about the burnout because they view us as completely replaceable line items. If you are already at your breaking point, start polishing your resume now. You owe this company nothing, and no paycheck is worth sacrificing your mental health while management sets you up to fail.

Hang in there. I know exactly what you’re going through with these impossible checklists and constant pressure from above. It feels like a daily war just to keep the shelves stocked while trying to survive on a skeleton crew. Some days I honestly wonder if the higher-ups even step foot in a store, or if they’re just looking at spreadsheets and dreaming up new ways to make our jobs harder. You are definitely not alone in feeling this way; the current setup is just not designed for success.
