Impact of the Sep 24 notice - any departments safe?

Just saw the WARN notice hit for late December. 50 people isn't massive in the grand scheme of things, but it feels like the thin edge of the wedge. My manager has been acting weird lately—lots of 'all hands' meetings that could have been emails and a sudden obsession with tracking billable hours and efficiency metrics. For those of us in operations, it feels like we’re constantly being squeezed. Is anyone hearing whispers about which specific departments are on the chopping block this time? I’m worried that if they start cutting into core infrastructure roles, we’re going to be looking at a reliability nightmare by Q1. My team is already burned out from the last round of shuffling. If anyone has intel on whether this is contained or if we should expect another wave in early 2025, please share. Getting really tired of the 'business as usual' emails when morale is in the gutter.

The mood in the office has definitely shifted. I’ve noticed the same micromanagement over metrics lately, which usually precedes another round of cuts. It’s always the same story: leadership talks about 'streamlining' while the rest of us are left covering two roles for the price of one. If your manager is suddenly hyper-focused on efficiency, they’re likely being pressured to identify the next group of headcount reductions. Just keep your head down, update your resume, and start quietly networking. Don’t wait for them to give you a formal warning before you have a backup plan ready.

Honestly, don't count on hearing any reliable rumors from the top. Management is always the last to know, or they’re instructed to keep quiet until the very last second. I’ve been through a few of these cycles here, and the pattern is predictable: they prioritize the roles they can automate or outsource first. Operations is almost always the target when they’re desperate to pad the quarterly reports. If you're feeling the squeeze, trust your gut. It’s better to be overprepared and start poking around for new opportunities now rather than being blindsided when the next round drops.
