Anyone else seeing a hiring freeze in Engineering?

Been here about 3 years, mostly on the platform infra side. Lately, it feels like the brakes have been slammed on new hires, especially in my org. We had a few roles open a quarter ago, and now they're all gone. My manager is being super cagey, just says 'recruiting is paused' which feels like code for 'don't expect any new blood, and maybe don't expect us to be around either.' Anyone else in different departments seeing the same thing? Is this a company-wide thing or just an engineering thing?

Yeah, seeing something similar on the data science side. We were interviewing for a couple of senior roles a couple months back, and suddenly those positions just vanished from the internal board. My lead's response was pretty much the same – 'recruiting is paused.' It's definitely creating some friction on the team, as we're already stretched thin. Makes you wonder what the broader financial picture looks like. Hopefully, it's just a temporary lull and not a sign of bigger issues.

Hmm, my team in logistics hasn't really felt it. We actually brought on two new engineers last month. It's possible it's specific to certain orgs or areas of engineering that are seeing less immediate business impact or are considered less critical right now. The platform infra side can sometimes be the first to get tightened if budgets are being scrutinized. Have you tried reaching out to folks in other departments to see if they're experiencing the same pinch?
