Has anyone else noticed increased scrutiny on performance reviews lately?

Hey everyone, been at Dropbox for a few years now, and I'm starting to get a weird vibe. My team's been hitting its targets, but it feels like performance reviews are suddenly way more intense than they used to be. Everyone's getting nitpicked on small details, and there's a lot more emphasis on 'impact' that feels a bit subjective. It's making people really anxious. I've heard whispers from folks in other departments that it's similar there too. It feels like the company is gearing up for something, or maybe just tightening the belt internally. Anyone else experiencing this? Wondering if it's just my perception or if others are seeing a shift in how performance is being evaluated. Trying to stay positive and focus on my work, but this increased pressure is definitely getting to me and a lot of my colleagues.

Yeah, I've definitely felt that shift too. It feels like the goalposts have moved, and what used to be considered solid performance is now barely meeting expectations. The 'impact' metric is particularly frustrating – it's so hard to quantify sometimes and seems to be open to interpretation, which naturally leads to anxiety. Hope this is just a temporary phase and not a permanent change in how things are evaluated.

I can relate to this. My team is also exceeding goals, yet the review process feels more like a dissection than a discussion of achievements. There's a new focus on granular details that distracts from the bigger picture and the actual value delivered. It's creating an atmosphere where people are more worried about being criticized than recognized for their hard work. It would be good to get some clarity from leadership on the rationale behind this increased intensity.
