Anyone else noticing the uptick in 'efficiency' consultant chatter?

Is it just me, or has the language coming from leadership shifted significantly over the last month? We keep hearing about 'operational excellence' and 'streamlining workflows' in every all-hands meeting. I’ve been with Duke for over a decade, and I know that vocabulary usually precedes a reduction in force. I’ve noticed a lot of outside consultants in suits loitering near the conference rooms in the Charlotte office lately. Usually, that’s the canary in the coal mine. I’m starting to get that nervous energy where I’m triple-checking my documentation and making sure my projects are bulletproof, but it’s hard to stay focused when you’re waiting for the other shoe to drop. Has anyone heard if specific departments are being audited for 'cost-saving measures' right now? I know the regulated side is usually safer, but the support functions feel like they’re being prepped for the chopping block. Just trying to figure out if I’m being paranoid or if I need to start polishing the resume this weekend.

I’ve been seeing those suits in the Charlotte office too. It’s the same script they always use before a restructuring cycle. Whenever leadership starts throwing around buzzwords like 'operational excellence,' it’s a massive red flag. After ten years here, you know the drill better than anyone. It’s not just you being paranoid; the pattern is identical to previous rounds. Keep your resume polished and stay quiet—if they’re already scouting with consultants, the plans are likely already finalized and waiting for an announcement date.

Look, it’s understandable to be anxious, but these efficiency consultants are a staple of any large utility company. They cycle through every few years to justify their own existence and appease shareholders. While the talk of 'streamlining' is never great, it doesn't always automatically mean a massive layoff. Try not to panic until there’s concrete news. Just focus on your current projects and keep your head down. Speculation on forums like this usually just spreads unnecessary stress across the office.
