Duke Energy: Performance reviews feel extra critical this year

So, performance review season just wrapped up, and man, it felt different this time around at Duke. Usually, it's a pretty standard process, but this year, the feedback seemed much more focused on 'areas for improvement' and 'development opportunities,' even for people who have consistently met or exceeded expectations. It felt like they were building a case for something, I don't know. There wasn't any direct talk of layoffs, of course, but the tone was definitely more critical than I've experienced in the past. Made me a bit uneasy, honestly. Just wondering if anyone else got similar vibes during their reviews? Trying to gauge if this is a company-wide shift in how they're evaluating employees or if it's just my specific management team being extra intense. Anyone have any insights or heard anything through the grapevine?

Interesting post. I also noticed a shift in the performance review language this year. It felt like a lot more emphasis was placed on developmental feedback, even for high performers. While I appreciate the focus on growth, the intensity of it did feel a bit unusual. Makes you wonder what the underlying strategy might be. Hopefully, it's all about genuine improvement and not something else.

Yeah, that feeling of 'building a case' resonates. It was definitely a more scrutinizing process than in years past. Lots of 'areas for improvement' thrown around, which is fine in theory, but when it's applied broadly, it creates a bit of unease. I'm trying to stay optimistic about it being about standard process adjustments, but it's hard not to feel a bit on edge given the current climate.
