It is not just your department. Things have been at a total standstill for weeks now. I’ve noticed the same pattern in my division; the silence from leadership is deafening, and every time someone asks about the headcount plan, we get redirected to generic corporate talking points. It feels like they are waiting for a specific trigger to pull the plug on even more roles. If you have been here five years, you know the drill—usually, internal mobility is our safety net, but right now, that entire system is practically non-existent. Start updating your resume just in case.
Honestly, I stopped checking the portal weeks ago because it is just depressing. The writing is on the wall. When managers start dodging basic questions about hiring, it usually means the budget was already slashed at the regional level and they’re just trying to stall until the official announcement drops. My team is currently understaffed, and even we aren't getting approval to backfill critical seats. I would not hold your breath for any change before the end of the quarter. It is probably time to start looking at what else is out there.
