October 22nd cuts: Who else got the calendar invite?

Just got the dreaded calendar invite for a 'team sync' 15 minutes before the company-wide email went out. It’s happening again. 400 people gone today, just like that. I’ve been here for four years and worked through every cycle of 'restructuring' and 'realigning,' but this one feels different. The mood in the Slack channels is absolute silence. I’m currently waiting on my 1:1 to see if I’m officially part of the 400 or if I’m just being moved to a different department again. Does anyone know if they are sticking to the standard severance package, or have they adjusted it since the spring rounds? I really don't want to go back on the market in this economy, especially with the industry looking like a graveyard right now. If you're on the chopping block today, I’m so sorry. Please share if you've already received your package details so the rest of us know what to expect.

I am so sorry you are going through this. That 15-minute window before the announcement is the hallmark of how they handle these layoffs—total lack of respect for human beings who built their products. Whatever happens in that 1:1, remember that your value as a developer or artist isn't defined by their quarterly earnings report. Take a deep breath, start archiving your portfolio pieces now before they cut your access, and reach out to the network you’ve built over the last four years. You aren't alone in this.

Same old EA, different year. They cycle through this 'restructuring' every time they need to pad the balance sheet for shareholders, treating tenure like it’s a liability rather than an asset. If you get the axe, don't look back; the industry is tough right now, but you’ll find something that actually values your craft instead of just treating you like a line item. Just make sure you get your personal files out of their cloud environments before they lock the accounts. Stay strong.
