Severance Package - What to expect?

Hypothetically speaking, what kind of severance package are we looking at if EA were to do layoffs? I'm in engineering, been here for 5 years. I've heard rumors of 2 weeks per year of service, but I'm not sure how accurate that is. Anyone have any firsthand experience or know someone who does? What about benefits continuation? COBRA is ridiculously expensive. Any info is appreciated.

I haven't personally been through a layoff at EA, but my friend in QA was part of a restructuring a few years back. He got just over 2 weeks per year, plus they paid out his accrued vacation time. They also offered a few months of outplacement services, which he said were actually pretty helpful for updating his resume and practicing interview skills. Definitely start saving aggressively now, just in case.

Take anything you hear with a grain of salt until it actually happens. Severance packages can vary wildly based on a ton of factors - your level, department, the overall financial situation, and even the specific legal advice they're getting at the time. Two weeks per year sounds like a decent starting point, but don't count on it. Document everything, and be ready to negotiate if you feel the initial offer is unfair. Also, check your employee handbook – it *might* have some general guidelines.
