Anyone else seeing the back-to-office push as a precursor?

Management is getting increasingly weird about badge swipes and 'collaboration' mandates lately. I’ve been through enough cycles in pharma to know that when they stop talking about innovation and start obsessing over headcounts in the office, it’s usually because they need to audit who is actually still engaged before they start trimming the fat. My manager suddenly wants weekly syncs on 'current bandwidth' and project impact. It feels like they’re building a hit list. Has anyone else’s leadership team shifted their tone from 'hybrid flexibility' to 'mandatory presence' in the last month? Trying to figure out if I’m just being paranoid or if the writing is on the wall for the next quarter.

It’s definitely the same vibe here. The obsession with badge swipes feels less about 'collaboration' and more about metrics for a RIF. When leadership starts hyper-focusing on daily attendance instead of the actual quality of our output, it’s a massive red flag. I've been keeping my resume polished and quietly archiving my project wins just in case. They treat us like line items on a spreadsheet, and the office push is just their way of narrowing down the list of who hasn't checked out yet. Trust your gut on this one.

Honestly, the paranoia is reaching an all-time high lately. While everyone is stressing about the office mandates, I think it’s just standard corporate theatre. They want to see who complies and who pushes back. Most of these mid-level managers are just as terrified as we are, trying to look busy for the executives upstairs. Just keep your head down, do the work, and stop trying to read the tea leaves on every email. If cuts are coming, they’re coming regardless of whether you’re sitting at a desk or working from your kitchen.
