Anyone else hearing about the 'right-sizing' plans for next month?

I’ve been hearing whispers around the office about another round of cuts coming down the pipe before the end of the year. After the 2022 reduction in Covert, everyone is on edge, but this feels different. The management messaging has shifted from 'growth' to 'operational discipline' over the last three weeks, which usually translates to 'get ready for severance packages.' My manager won't look me in the eye during our 1:1s, and the sudden hiring freeze for non-critical roles is the classic precursor. Is anyone else seeing the same behavior in their department? I’m trying to figure out if it’s just the usual end-of-year anxiety or if we’re actually looking at a significant cull. It’s hard to focus on projects when you’re wondering if you’re going to be logged out by Friday.

The shift in language to 'operational discipline' is the exact script they used right before the last major restructuring. It’s hard not to feel cynical when you see the same patterns repeating—the closed-door meetings, the vague emails about efficiency, and the sudden silence from leadership. If your manager is acting evasive, it’s usually a sign they’ve already been briefed on the timeline. Start updating your resume now and keep your head down; it’s better to be over-prepared for a departure than to be caught off guard when the calendar finally hits that deadline.

Honestly, I stopped trusting the corporate messaging years ago. Every time they talk about 'right-sizing' or 'optimizing our footprint,' it just means someone in middle management is about to lose their cubicle. The hiring freeze is the final nail in the coffin for anyone hoping for a normal Q4. Just look at the internal turnover data from the last two years—the trend lines are brutal. If you have any vacation time left, take it now while you can still afford the break. Whatever happens, just remember that the company will keep spinning its wheels regardless of who they let go.
