Anyone else seeing a hiring freeze creep in?

So, I've been trying to get approval for a new hire on my team for months. Originally, it was a 'tightening the belt' situation, but now it feels like a full-blown freeze. We had a req open for a senior role and it just got quietly closed with no explanation. HR is giving vague answers about 'strategic resource allocation.' Management seems to be avoiding direct conversations about headcount, which is never a good sign. Combined with the whispers about projects being shelved or deprioritized, it's starting to feel like the company is bracing for impact. Not outright layoffs, but definitely a slowdown and a reevaluation of where resources are going. Anyone else experiencing this on the ground, especially in the core business/operations side?

Yep, definitely feeling the same vibe here. The 'streamlining' talk has been going on for a while, but it's hitting closer to home now. We've had a few positions get put on hold, and the usual speed for approvals has slowed to a crawl. It's making it tough to plan for the future, and the lack of clear communication is pretty frustrating for everyone trying to get things done. Hopefully, it's just a temporary phase.

I can confirm. The strategic resource allocation excuse is becoming the go-to. It's a shame because we've got critical work needing to be done, and the inability to bring in the right talent is starting to impact timelines. Seeing experienced people leave and not being able to backfill effectively is a real concern for team capacity and knowledge retention. Fingers crossed things open up soon.
