Preparing for the worst: what's the process like if it happens?

Okay, so with all the quiet talk and the general market slowdown, I'm starting to think about worst-case scenarios. I've been in product development here for about 6 years, and honestly, my role is pretty specialized. If layoffs were to hit, I'm wondering what the typical process looks like at Estee Lauder. Does HR usually give much notice? What about the package details – is it usually a set amount of weeks per year of service, or is there negotiation room? I'm asking purely for preparedness, not because I have any insider info (wish I did!). Just want to know what to expect, like if I should start updating my resume proactively or if there's usually a heads-up period. Anyone who's been through this before at EL or a similar company, any insights would be super helpful.

Hey, I've been through a similar situation at another large corporation. While I can't speak directly to EL's policies, notice periods often depend on your level and tenure. HR usually has a standard package, often calculated by years of service plus a bit extra for senior roles. Negotiation room is typically limited unless you have a unique skill set or leverage. Focus on updating your resume and networking now. Being prepared is smart, no need to apologize for it.

Honestly, nobody really knows until it happens. Rumors fly all the time in big companies. If it does come to that, they'll likely have a script. Focus on doing your job well and documenting your achievements. That's your best defense, regardless of the company. Don't spend too much energy on 'what ifs' that might never materialize. Keep your head down and keep delivering.
