Lost my job at Eversource last week, trying to prep for interviews

Well, it happened. Got the dreaded meeting invite yesterday and was let go. Been in customer service for about 7 years, always thought I was pretty safe. Turns out, nope. HR was… efficient, I guess? Gave me the standard severance package info, but honestly, my head was spinning. Now I'm trying to pull myself together and actually start looking. Anyone else been through this recently? What kind of questions are they hitting you with in interviews? Any tips for brushing up my resume or specific skills that might be in demand right now, especially in the utility sector? I feel completely blindsided and rusty on the whole job hunting process.

Hey, that's a rough situation, truly sorry to hear about the job loss. Seven years is a long time to dedicate to a company, and it's completely understandable that you're feeling blindsided. Focus on what you *can* control now. For interviews, definitely lean into your customer service experience – highlight problem-solving, de-escalation, and your ability to handle difficult situations with grace. Think about specific examples where you went above and beyond for a customer. They'll want to see that resilience. Don't be afraid to ask for informational interviews too, it can help you learn about other companies and roles.

That's tough, man. Happened to a buddy of mine at a utility company a couple of years back. They downsized the customer service department. He said the hardest part was getting over the shock. For interviews, definitely practice your STAR method answers (Situation, Task, Action, Result). Companies love that structured way of hearing about your accomplishments. Also, be prepared for questions about why you left Eversource – frame it positively, focusing on seeking new opportunities and growth, not on any negativity about being let go. Brush up on any tech skills or software you used extensively; they might ask about that.
