It’s honestly getting impossible to focus on daily tasks when the atmosphere is this heavy. The constant talk about 'efficiency' is just corporate speak for more cuts, and nobody actually believes that we’re safe long-term. Every time a calendar invite from HR pops up on a manager's schedule, the whole department holds its breath. I’ve started updating my resume on the weekends because it feels like a matter of time before the next shoe drops. Leadership keeps telling us to stay focused, but how can we when the company treats us like disposable line items on a spreadsheet?
I think some of the panic is a bit overblown. Every utility goes through cycles of restructuring, and while the layoffs in Michigan are definitely rough, Exelon remains a massive player in the energy sector. Efficiency is frustrating, but it’s a reality of the industry right now as they try to modernize the grid. I’m keeping my head down and focusing on my output rather than the office gossip. If you are truly worried, the best move is to make yourself indispensable rather than spending all day reading WARN notices and worrying about the rumor mill.
