Union City cuts: Is anyone actually safe right now?

I saw the WARN notice for the 614 people in Union City and my stomach just dropped. It’s not even just about the number; it’s the fact that they’re wiping out entire operations hubs like this while leadership keeps talking about 'operational efficiency' on the internal town halls. I’ve been with the company for eight years and the culture has shifted from 'we power the grid' to 'how many heads can we cut to make the quarterly report look pretty for Wall Street.' My manager had zero answers during our 1:1 today, just a lot of 'I can’t discuss specifics.' If they can drop 600 people in one go in Georgia, there’s no way they aren’t planning another round for the corporate office or the regional support teams by Q3. Has anyone heard if this is the end of the restructuring or if the 'transformational' phase is just getting started? I’m already dusting off the resume because the anxiety of checking my email every morning is becoming unbearable. Stay safe everyone, keep your private files backed up and document your wins now—you never know when your access will just vanish.

I was in the same boat during the last round of restructuring, and honestly, the 'operational efficiency' line is just code for padding the numbers for shareholders. It’s exhausting watching them strip away the institutional knowledge that actually keeps the grid stable. When you’ve put in nearly a decade, being treated like a line item on a budget spreadsheet is a slap in the face. Keep your head down and start looking elsewhere immediately; loyalty to this company clearly isn't being reciprocated anymore.

It is honestly surreal watching the company prioritize stock buybacks and quarterly optics over the people who literally keep the lights on. That Union City hub was a massive operation, and wiping it out is going to leave a gaping hole in capacity. If you think your department is shielded because you’re 'essential,' please reconsider. Leadership is playing a completely different game now, and no one is safe when they’re looking for quick wins to appease the board. Document everything and update your resume today.
