Is anyone else seeing a freeze on external hiring?

Hey everyone, been at ExxonMobil for a few years now in [your department, e.g., engineering/IT/finance]. Lately, I've noticed a significant slowdown in external job postings and the hiring process seems to be dragging incredibly slowly, if it's moving at all. My manager has been pretty cagey when asked about it, just saying things are 'being evaluated.' This is making me nervous, especially with the current market conditions in the energy sector. Anyone else in different departments seeing this same trend? Are you hearing any whispers or internal comms about hiring freezes or budget cuts that might explain this? Trying to get a read on the general sentiment and if this is a company-wide thing or just my specific area. It's hard to plan for the future when you feel like the rug could be pulled out from under you with no notice. Any insights would be appreciated.

Yeah, I've heard whispers about this across a few teams, not just yours. It's definitely a bit unnerving when things go quiet like this, especially after things seemed to be picking up. Management's silence on the matter doesn't exactly inspire confidence, does it? Hopefully, it's just a temporary pause and not indicative of bigger shifts. My department's experienced something similar, though not quite as pronounced. We've seen a few roles disappear from the internal site that were previously active. It's hard to get a straight answer, which naturally leads to speculation. The 'evaluating' line is classic corporate speak for 'we don't want to say no, but also probably not hiring.' Curious to see how this plays out over the next quarter.
