August 13th layoff: Did your department get hit?

Seems like the rumors about the Southern California downsizing finally materialized today. I’m seeing a lot of empty desks in the office and the silence in the breakroom is deafening. I’ve been with FedEx for over six years, and I’ve never seen a purge this clinical. They’re really leaning into the 'restructuring' narrative, but it’s just mass layoffs with a corporate bow on it. I’ve heard from some friends in the warehouse side that they’re being shielded for now, but the office staff is definitely taking the brunt of it. Are we expecting another round before October? I’m worried that this initial announcement is just the tip of the iceberg and they’re going to stagger the departures to avoid a WARN act trigger or just minimize the PR damage. If you’re at one of the LA or OC locations, stay safe and keep your networks updated. It feels like nowhere is truly secure anymore.

I’m in the Midwest and we’re seeing the exact same thing. It feels like they are clearing house from the top down. My manager wouldn’t give us a straight answer during the briefing this morning, just kept repeating 'efficiency initiatives.' It’s honestly exhausting waiting for the other shoe to drop every single day. I’ve started updating my resume just in case, because at this point, nobody’s job feels secure regardless of their tenure. Stay safe out there.

That sounds absolutely brutal. I’ve been hearing whispers about the same thing happening in our regional hub. They love using those corporate buzzwords to mask the fact that they’re cutting people’s livelihoods to pad the bottom line. It’s sickening how they can just pivot on a dime and discard loyal employees like they’re nothing. Don't let them make you feel like this is personal—the whole system is clearly shifting into something much colder. Look after yourself and try to document everything you can.
