It’s happening across the board, not just in your department. Management is definitely pushing the badge swipe monitoring harder lately to squeeze people out without having to pay severance. The 'collaborative energy' line is just corporate speak for forced attendance. A lot of my team members have already started updating their resumes and applying elsewhere because the environment has become completely stifling. If you value your sanity, start looking for a new role now; they clearly don't value the flexibility or the work we've been putting in from home for years.

I’ve noticed the shift as well, and it’s honestly exhausting. My manager is suddenly obsessed with headcount and tracking every minute spent in the office. It feels like they are manufacturing reasons to get rid of people to avoid the bad press of a massive layoff. The morale in the office is non-existent, and everyone just sits in their cubicles with noise-canceling headphones on. There is zero collaboration happening; we are all just physically present so we don't get a mark against our names.
