Anyone else noticing the travel freeze?

Is it just my department or are others seeing all travel requests getting kicked back by Finance? I’ve had two trips for client implementation denied this week with a generic 'prioritize essential business only' note. Usually, this is the first canary in the coal mine before they start trimming the headcount. Everything feels a bit tense in the internal Slack channels too, like everyone is holding their breath waiting for the other shoe to drop. My manager keeps pivoting to 'optimizing resources' during our 1:1s, which is corporate speak for 'do more with less.' Is the writing on the wall or are we just tightening belts for the end of the quarter?

It's definitely happening across the board, not just in your department. I’ve seen the same 'prioritize essential' emails hitting my inbox for weeks now. Every time they start talking about 'optimizing resources' or 'streamlining travel,' the rumors about RIFs always turn out to be true. I’ve been through enough of these cycles here to know exactly what comes next. Don’t wait for the announcement; start polishing your resume now. It’s always better to be ahead of the curve than left scrambling when they finally pull the trigger.

Honestly, I wouldn't panic just yet. We’ve seen these temporary freezes before during the end of the quarter or whenever Finance is trying to hit specific margin targets. The internal Slack channels are always a dumpster fire of anxiety, but it’s usually just people overthinking the corporate speak. It’s likely just a standard effort to keep costs down until the next reporting period. Keep your head down, do your job, and let the bureaucracy play itself out. It doesn't always mean layoffs are right around the corner.
