RTO enforcement getting aggressive

Suddenly the badge swipes are being tracked and 'flagged' if you aren't in the office three days a week. We all know how this dance goes—they want to thin the herd without having to pay severance packages. If they make the environment miserable enough and force long commutes on people who were hired as remote-first, the attrition solves itself. It’s a classic move. I’m already seeing a few senior devs update their LinkedIn statuses. If you’re at a hub site, have you noticed HR actually acting on these attendance reports, or is it just another empty threat to scare us into compliance?

It is honestly pathetic. We were promised flexibility when we joined, and now they are weaponizing badge swipes to force resignations. They are terrified of laying people off because of the public optics and the cost, so they are just trying to drive us out the door by making the daily grind unbearable. My team is already looking at other options, and I honestly hope the talent drain hits them hard enough to make them regret this push. Nobody is actually more productive sitting in a cubicle doing Zoom calls all day.

I have been watching the same thing happen at my site. They started sending out these passive-aggressive emails last month, and now the management is suddenly obsessed with headcount reports. It is transparently obvious that this is just a way to avoid severance payouts. If you value your sanity and your work-life balance, you should definitely start putting feelers out now. Don't wait for them to squeeze you out; get ahead of it while the market still has some decent roles open elsewhere. Loyalty is a one-way street here.
