Heard from a friend in sales - hiring freeze confirmed?

Okay, so I'm in a different department, but I heard through a friend in sales that they've got a confirmed hiring freeze. Like, all reqs pulled, even backfills. Has anyone else heard anything similar in their org? I'm in engineering, and things seem normal-ish here, but that sales news has me a little freaked out. I've only been with Fortinet for about 2 years, and I know 'last in, first out' is a thing. Should I be updating my resume? Or am I just being paranoid? I'm trying not to spread rumors, but this seems kinda serious.

Sales often gets hit first in downturns. It could be a targeted thing to adjust to current market conditions. I wouldn't panic *yet* but it's smart to have your resume updated anyway. Never hurts to be prepared. Maybe start networking internally in case you need to jump ship within the company. Keep an ear to the ground and see if it spreads beyond sales before you truly worry.

Hiring freeze in *sales* specifically? Sounds like someone missed their quota. Seriously though, sales is high-pressure and constantly churns, so take that news with a grain of salt. Unless you start seeing empty desks in *your* department, I'd stay calm. Two years is decent tenure; focus on what you can control: your performance. And yes, always keep your resume updated, regardless.
