Seriously regretting joining Fortinet right now

Joined Fortinet like 6 months ago and I'm already looking for a new job. I came from a smaller cybersecurity company, and I thought Fortinet would be a good career move. Bigger name, more stability, right? Wrong. The bureaucracy here is insane. I spend more time in meetings and filling out paperwork than actually doing my job (software dev). Plus, the team is constantly stressed and overworked. My manager is barely ever available. Honestly, I'm starting to think I made a huge mistake. If layoffs *do* happen, I almost wouldn't mind. At least I'd get a severance package. Anyone else feeling like they jumped ship to the wrong place?

That sucks to hear, but honestly, your experience isn't unique to Fortinet. Big companies often come with a ton of red tape. I'd suggest trying to carve out some time for yourself and documenting everything you're doing. Quantify how much time is lost to meetings and paperwork. Then, present this to your manager (or their manager) with suggestions for streamlining. It might not fix everything, but at least you'll be showing initiative and trying to improve things. It could help in the long run, whether you stay or go.

Six months is a pretty short time. Are you sure it's the company, or could it be the specific team you're on? Maybe try talking to some folks in other departments and see if their experience is different. If you otherwise like the overall company goals and product, a transfer might be a better option than bailing completely. That being said, your mental health is important too, so don't stick around if it's truly unbearable. Always good to have a backup plan ready.
