Anyone else seeing the hiring freeze in effect?

Multiple departments in the plumbing and cabinetry divisions seem to have completely halted external hiring this month. Even roles that were 'urgent' back in April are suddenly stuck in purgatory with no updates from HR. When I asked my manager about a headcount request for my team, they basically told me that budgets are being scrutinized at a level I haven't seen in years. It’s definitely not a total freeze across the board, but the optics are terrible. It feels like they are clearing the deck before making a big move. I’m starting to get worried that if I don't see a replacement for our open seat soon, it’s going to be permanently dissolved. Has anyone in the other segments heard if they’re getting the same pushback on recruiting, or is this isolated to the building products side?

I've noticed the same thing over in the cabinetry group. We had a critical spot open for months, and now HR has gone completely radio silent on the candidates we already interviewed. It’s frustrating because we’re drowning in work, but leadership acts like everything is fine. Management is definitely tight-lipped, but the 'scrutiny' comment hits home. It feels like they're bracing for a rough quarter and trying to keep the books looking clean for the investors. Expect more of the same until the next fiscal cycle starts.

Honestly, it’s about time they tightened the belt. Things have been bloated for a while, and the hiring spree earlier this year seemed unsustainable given the current market climate. While it’s annoying for those of us waiting on headcount, it’s probably a necessary evil to keep the ship upright. Don’t take the lack of updates personally; it’s just bureaucratic paralysis while they re-evaluate the entire budget. Keep your head down and ride it out, because this is just standard corporate caution during uncertain times.
