Gartner Consulting - Feeling the pinch on utilization? My utilization has taken a hit.

Been in consulting at Gartner for a few years now, and my utilization rate has consistently been strong. However, over the past couple of quarters, I've seen it dip significantly. Projects seem to be ending and not getting immediately replaced, or the new ones are smaller and don't require as many dedicated resources. I'm spending more time than I'd like on internal tasks or just waiting for the next engagement. Is this a company-wide thing, or am I in a particularly slow practice area? Curious to hear if others are facing similar utilization challenges and what might be driving it. Feels like a leading indicator for something more significant, if I'm being honest.

I've noticed a similar trend in my practice area within Gartner over the last few months. It feels like the pipeline for new projects has definitely slowed down, and the ones that are coming in are often smaller in scope. It's leading to more downtime than usual, which is definitely a concern when your performance is tied to utilization. I'm also wondering if this is a broader issue across the firm or specific to certain groups. Hopefully, things pick up soon.

Utilization dips can be frustrating, especially when you're used to a steady stream of work. I've been at Gartner for a while and seen cycles like this before, though this current slowdown feels a bit more pronounced. It might be a combination of market factors and how project pipelines are being managed. Keep an eye on internal updates, and perhaps reach out to your manager about potential training or internal initiatives you could contribute to during these slower periods.
