Gartner Consulting: Client budgets tight, projects getting smaller?

Anyone else seeing a trend where clients are pushing back hard on project scope and budget? It feels like the days of big, multi-year transformation programs are becoming rarer. Now it's all about quick wins and smaller, more focused initiatives. Makes it harder to staff effectively and feels like we're constantly having to justify every single line item. Used to be that clients trusted Gartner to define the path, now it feels like they're dictating the route and trying to get us to drive for less. Wondering if this is a broader trend or just my specific accounts.

Absolutely seeing this. It's a significant shift. Clients are definitely more risk-averse and focused on immediate ROI. While the 'quick win' approach can be effective, it does change the dynamic of how we engage and deliver. The challenge is demonstrating value quickly and proving that these smaller initiatives can build towards a larger strategic vision, even if the client isn't ready to commit to the full program upfront. It requires a more agile and adaptable consulting approach.

Yeah, the market definitely feels tighter. Clients are scrutinizing every dollar. I think it's partly economic, but also a maturation of how companies view consulting. They want tangible, demonstrable results rather than just strategic roadmaps. We're having to be much more precise in scoping and delivering, focusing on specific pain points and measurable outcomes. It's a good discipline, forcing us to be more efficient and client-centric, but it does make the 'big picture' transformation harder to sell and execute.
